Meeting of RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs with Delegation of Russia and Central Asia Centre of Shanghai Advanced Studies Institute
1 / 3

On July 7, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Khosrov Harutyunyan, Committee members Gagik Melikyan, Sergey Bagratyan and Vahan Harutyunyan met with the delegation of the Center for Russia and Central Asia of Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS) led by the SIIS Vice President Yang Jian.

The Chancellor of the RA State Administration Academy Arsen Lokyan attended the meeting.

The Committee Chair Khosrov Harutyunyan welcomed the guests' visit to the RA National Assembly and expressed hope that the meeting will give an opportunity to touch upon and discuss issues of mutual interest.

Yang Jian thanked the Committee Chair and the members for the reception and noted that the Armenians and Chinese are the bearers of multi-layered cultural legacy and spiritual traditions coming from centuries.

At the same time the Head of the Chinese Delegation has documented that in the current conditions of the developments both countries have relations enriching cooperation. It can be successfully shown in the sphere of education, which in its turn can be an impetus to develop the economic relations. In this context the sides touched upon ‘One Zone, One Road’ Chinese integration programme, on which Yang Jian was interested in the Armenian MPs’ viewpoints.

By Khosrov Harutyunyan’s assessment, ‘One Zone, One Road’ Chinese project has a great potential of integration, in this context he has opined that in case of Armenia the component of integration of the mentioned programme can get new content, if it is observed in terms of long-term economic goals of the two states. In his opinion, China with that initiative has a goal to provide irreversible economic and political guarantees for the accessibility of the developed and developing markets of the Chinese products, at the same time proposing its participation in the economic and social development of the countries taking part in the implementation of the programme. To Mr Harutyunyan’s assessment, China is the second in the world with its economy, and its capabilities, and market interests everybody: the countries with big and small economy.

At the end of the meeting the members the Center for Russia and Central Asia of Shanghai Institute for International Studies invited the members of the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs to China.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs thanked the Chinese officials for the invitation and expressed hope that in the coming years due to joint efforts the Armenian-Chinese economic relations will enter a new phase.
